2016 MAYOR'S CUP
Mayor Eric Garcetti and the City of Los Angeles invite all full-time and part-time college students, faculty members, and staff from Los Angeles colleges and universities to enter the inaugural Mayor’s Cup by solving some of the City’s most important civic challenges. Sean Burton is President of CityView and a member of CityView’s Board of Directors and Investment Committees. CityView is a real estate fund sponsor and operator that invests institutional capital in urban residential housing throughout the United States.
Prior to joining CityView, Burton was a senior executive in the Corporate Business Development and Strategy Division at Warner Bros, a transactional attorney at O’Melveny & Myers, LLP and served in the White House and for the Democratic National Committee during the Clinton Administration.
Burton is President, Board of Airport Commissioners for Los Angeles. He previously served on the Los Angeles City Planning Commission, and the California Commission on Tax Policy and the New Economy. He is a trustee at John Thomas Dye School, a member of the Young Presidents Organization, and a member of the board of United Friends of the Children.
Burton is a graduate of the New York University School of Law and the University of California, Irvine. He recently retired as a lieutenant (Intelligence) from the United States Navy Reserve.
As President of AXS TV, Charles Hirschhorn brings more than 30 years experience in film production, television, cable, broadband, animation and video games. Prior to AXS TV, Hirschhorn helped launch numerous television networks, including FOX, G4 TV and Retirement Living Television.
Hirschhorn spent 10 years at The Walt Disney Company in various management roles in motion pictures, television and animation. He is the Founder of Fountain Productions, an independent production company which produces theatrical motion pictures, TV movies and direct-to-video films. His credits include: “Bull Durham,” “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” “The Miracle Worker,” “Inspector Gadget II,” and “Herbie: Fully Loaded”.
Hirschhorn earned a BA from Harvard College and served as an Arts Management Fellow for the National Endowment for the Arts. In addition to volunteer job counseling for convicted felons at Chrysalis, he serves on the Board of The Berklee College of Music and The Harvard College Office of the Arts.
BEN VAN DE BUNT
Ben Van de Bunt is a principal in Guthy-Renker, Cypress Creek, Paramount Equity, FHR and Rosewood Homes. Ben presently serves as chairman of Cypress Creek Renewables and FHR.
Ben was the long time CEO and President of Guthy-Renker. Ben has made many venture capital investments in startups and serves on many boards of directors, including Solar City, St. Johns Hospital and the Watts Learning Center.
Ben has been married for 25 years, has two daughters and is a graduate of UCLA and Harvard Law School.
Working with the LA Deputy Mayor's Office for Budget & Innovation and Guthy-Renker, a team explored how integration of a common call delivery system can improve customer service across many of the LA City Call Centers.
Working with the City of Los Angeles Personnel Department and LA Deputy Mayor's Office for Budget & Innovation; Deutsch LA provided expertise on recruiting millennials for career opportunities at the City of Los Angeles.
CityView and the City of Los Angeles Economic & Workforce Development Department provided expertise on business structures to Council District 11 to help address opportunities at Venice Beach.
eHarmony and Versus Digital are working with the Office of Veteran Affairs to improve communication of housing opportunities to homeless Veterans and better match unemployed Veterans with job opportunities.
The Mayor's Cup is a competition providing local university entrepreneurs the opportunity to explore innovative solutions to local civic challenges.
